Unprecedented Drop in Freight Rates Sends Shockwaves Through Industry
– a headline that encapsulates the chaos caused by the sudden plunge in freight rates. As companies struggled to adapt to the new normal, some freight brokers seized the opportunity to engage in price gouging, taking advantage of the desperate need for transportation services. The industry was left reeling from this unethical practice, further exacerbating the challenges faced in an already tumultuous time. https://www.thetrucker.com/trucking-news/business/small-improvements-in-freight-volumes-rates-may-give-way-to-turbulent-times-ahead
I have been in the transportation for more than half my life. From looking out a windshield for years and dealing with brokers myself some are good and other are not. But from my experience even up to today the big freight brokers still get their 20%. Which in turn makes the money that the owner operator receive less. So they will charge the shipper a higher price per mile, (but not to high) just enough to beat the next guy giving a quote so they can get their 20%. Whatever is left the owner operator receives.
I have been an owner operator for years. I know what they deal with day in and day out. The owner operator still should be getting 3.00/mile even today. The freight brokers today are so big and have so much overhead that they have to charge that 20% or they would just rather charge their customer more. Me personally have no problem getting 10% if i can get the owner operator more money and the shipper a better rate. My father always said better days are coming, lets hope so. engeltransportllc.com
